IMPORTANT – If you experience any symptoms of hard drive failure, the first and most important thing to do is turn your computer off right away. Continuing to use the drive may cause more damage or overwrite the data you’re trying to recover.
Common Signs Of Data Loss
I can recover data from the following drive types:
SSD Drives
Hybrid Hard Drives
SATA/IDE 3.5″/2.5″ drives
1.8″ Hard Drives
1.8″ IDE, ZIF, LIF
mSATA
Micro SATA
CF card
M.2 drives
Apple Macbook 12+6 pin
Apple Macbook 17+7 pin
Depending on the type of media, the size of the media, and the types of files to be recovered, there are different solutions divided into 3 levels.
Data recovery levels explained:

Level 1 data recovery is considered “logical” data recovery. In these cases, there is not clicking or buzzing from the drive and there is nothing physically wrong with the drive, but some kind of corruption has happened. This could be from a virus, an accidental format of the drive or accidental file deletion. These are the most straightforward recovery jobs and can usually be accomplished in 48 hours or less.
$100-$300
(depending on time).

Level 2 recovery is needed when a drive has slight damage resulting in multiple bad sectors. It can be caused from a drive or computer being dropped, deterioration of the drive over time due to it’s age, or many other factors. This is the most common type of recovery. Special hardware is needed to read the bad sectors for a successful recovery. I use the state of the art Rapidspar unit.
$300-$700
(depending on time and size of drive. There will be an additional charge if you need a new drive to store the recovered data).

A level 3 recovery is the most complicated type of data recovery. These are cases where a drive is physcially damaged, needing clean room work to repair it. Drives that have been dropped commonly need a level 3 recovery, as well as most clicking and beeping drives. These types of repairs take special equipment and much more time, so they need to be shipped to a clean room data recovery facility and therefore they cost a lot more .
I highly recommend Petri at Data Recovery Guru for this type of work. They are a local full service Level 3 data recovery lab that provide the best service without shipping across the country (and without the long wait!). In situations where you need this type of service, you can create a ticket on their website and they will pick the drive up from me and deliver it when the recovery is complete.
